Welcome to our new school web site. Over the next few months we will be adding more pages to help you find out about activities and events at our school, and to provide a wide range of useful information to our local community. Glenmead is a school where everyone is valued, respected and where individual talents, abilities and skills are recognised and nurtured, to enable everyone to reach their full potential. Glenmead Primary School is a two-form entry school for 4-11 year olds, with an admission limit of 60 pupils per year. The school was built in two phases, with the Junior Department being the first to be completed. It was opened in 1971 and the Infant Department and administrative rooms were opened in the autumn of 1975. There are attractive grounds surrounding the building, providing playing fields, 4 playground areas and pleasant educational features such as a pond, many trees, hedgerow, flowers and shrub beds. A large range of play equipment is provided for the pupils during the dinnertime break. The Junior Department was built to traditional design, and now comprises 11 classrooms, a 30-computer ICT suite, a reference library, offices, workrooms and both a large and a small hall. The Infant Department is arranged on an open plan basis with 6 class bays, 2 quiet areas and a library. The resource base for children with Speech/Language and Communication difficulties is situated in the junior part of the school.
We also have 2 mobile classrooms situated between one of the playgrounds and the playing field. One of these classrooms is now Creative Arts room (Glenmead has a strong musical tradition with a choir and many pupils learn to play a musical instrument). There are plans to develop the second classroom for community use. See the virtual school tour. Glenmead also has a long and proud sporting tradition and currently runs various teams and after school activities, which includes the before and after school club. |
